When we found out we were having twins, I read everything I could get my hands to prepare (side note: you CAN’T prepare for those first 3 months, you just have to get through them). I read tons of articles, Pinterest posts, and books to figure out what we needed. We’ve used some of it, and some of it has been useless. Five months in, here are the twin products we can’t live without:
Baby Merlin Magic Sleepsuit
My twins, in true fraternal twin fashion, had totally different sleep schedules. Sadie slept great at night, but took short, crummy naps. Scarlett took great naps during the day, but was up multiple times during the night. At 3 months, they were wiggling out of the Woombies and I was losing my mind. Enter the sleepsuit.
As soon as we put them on, they took a THREE HOUR NAP. We put them on that night and they slept from 10pm-5am. They’ve been sleeping through the night since and we’ve never looked back. These things are kind of ridiculous looking. Whatever. Buy them. They are life changing.
I recently called customer service about a zipper issue. They were super helpful and sent me a replacement immediately. They also told me that they have an “open stock” program for sleepsuits that have been returned. They inspect them, wash them and then sell them (in like new condition) for $19.99. You can reach them here at 1-877-458-0130.
They were also nice enough to sponsor my first giveaway! Scroll to the bottom, or click here, to find out how you can win your very own (totally amazing) sleepsuit!
Fisher Price Rock N' Play
I don’t if know Rock N’ Plays existed when we had Gray, but we got them for the twins and they are (by far) the most used piece of gear this time around. They are like little portable baby containers you can take everywhere. We used them as bassinets when they first came home. We take them outside on nice days. We used them as baby beds when we went on vacation. We feed the girls at the same time in them. They are light, they are portable, they fold up, they vibrate. They ROCK!
Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Standard Glass Bottles
With Gray, these were our bottles of choice. We liked them because of the slow-flow nipple. It was ridiculously slow. Like it took him an hour to finish a bottle. I was a first time Mom and petrified of nipple confusion. By the time we had the girls I was very wary of any plastic, even the BPA-free kind, because of studies like this. I knew I wanted to use glass bottles this time and we tried 4 different kinds. The Dr Brown’s are the best. People complain about washing extra parts. I will happily wash more parts if it means my baby will be less cranky, the nipple wont collapse, and the “slow flow” nipple won’t shoot a ridiculous amount of milk into her mouth.
My tech-savvy husband looked high and low for the best baby video monitor when we had Gray. It turns out baby video monitors suck. They are expensive, you can only watch them when you are at home, and the quality sucks. Foscam security cameras are way better. We can watch these cameras on our iPhones from anywhere (this helped immensely the first few times we left Gray) and the picture is clear enough to tell if they were breathing (a frequent worry with newborns). You can move it, zoom in and out, and talk over it. It is also much cheaper than most video monitors on the market.
Baby Trend Universal Double Snap-N-Go Stroller
Snap-N-Go’s are great when the babies are still in the infant car seats. You just pop the car seat into the frame and go. You don’t have to wake the baby, unbuckle her, put her in a stroller, and re-buckle her. Those steps take forever. Times 2. Plus a toddler dying to get out of his car seat. This one is also universal and will work with all infant car seats. It’s light, it folds up well, and isn’t super pricy.
My Brest Friend Twins Plus Deluxe Nursing Pillow
If you are going to nurse twins, you have to have a twin nursing pillow. It is the only way you are going to successfully tandem nurse. If you don’t tandem nurse, you will literally be nursing a baby 24 hours a day.
Tip: bring this to the hospital so the Lactation Consultant can teach you how to use this and tandem nurse.
Aden + Anais Swaddle Blankets
These swaddle blankets are a little pricey but we use them every day. They are so soft and have the cutest little prints on them. We use them as swaddles, to position the girls for nursing (see above), to prop bottles in the Rock N Plays, as photo backdrops, to keep sun off the girls without getting them warm, AND as blankets.
I spend WAY too much money on Amazon. We usually get deliveries twice a week. In the last 2 weeks I have purchased: items to make indoor obstacle courses for Gray, a birthday gift for my nephew, Magformers (they were 40% off and they are NEVER on sale), DHA for the girls, glucosamine for the dogs, 5 new Minion reinforcers for work, and vitamins I shipped to my Grandma. And I didn’t have to leave the house once. Since we have Prime, everything arrived within 2 days and it is hard to beat Amazon prices. They also have an incredible return policy which allows me to try a lot of products. If I don’t like something, I just drop it off at the UPS store and they take care of the shipping. We also buy most of our baby products there with a 20% Amazon Mom discount. You can try Amazon Prime free for a month here: Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial
